About Location Station
Location Station is a utility we badly needed at MRD allowing us to copy URL's and e-mail addresses back and forth across our network. There wasn't really a simple way for us to quickly create a double-clickable internet document (especially by dragging a link right off of a webpage) thus, Location Station provided the solution for us. We're passing it on to you hoping that you may find it useful and helpful as well.
Location Station allows you to:
• Create URL Internet Location Documents (for http:// addresses)
• Create E-Mail Internet Location Documents (for mailto: addresses)
• Create Newsgroup Internet Location Documents (for news: addresses)
• Create FTP Internet Location Documents (for ftp:// addresses)
You can configure Location Station using the 'Preferences' dialog (select 'Preferences...' from the 'Edit' menu) to:
• Automatically save Internet Location Documents to a folder that you specify
• Put up a 'Save As' dialog box prompting you for a filename each time you save an Internet Location Document
• Automatically quit (or remain open) after each Internet Location Document has been saved
• Default to one of four different Internet Location Document types
Additionally, Location Station provides you with four menu commands (each with a keyboard shortcut) in the 'File' menu to save you a few extra keystrokes when choosing an Internet Location Document type. You can also drag links from your browser directly into Location Station's window.
Location Station also provides:
• A 'Launch Internet Control Panel' shortcut
• Internet configuration information including some details on your Macintosh system configuration
A Few 'Rules'
Location Station needs to see a 'prefix' so that it knows what type of document to 'build':
• URL Internet Location Documents for http:// addresses must be preceeded by http:// or https://
• E-Mail Internet Location Documents for mailto: addresses must be preceeded by mailto:
• Newsgroup Internet Location Documents for news: addresses must be preceeded by news:
• FTP Internet Location Documents for ftp:// addresses must be preceeded by ftp://
Please note that we do not provide any type of technical support for freeware.
